About Higher Level Camps | |||||||||||||||||
|
In 2008 HLC had 8 girls teams, 7 boys teams, 126 participants at the girls camp and 104 at the boys camp. There were 49 teams at the Tournament of Champions Program, 83 teams at the HLC/ Ripon Shootout, 65 teams at the Girls HLC Summer Shootout. HLC continues to emphasize quality over quantity and has something for everyone who desires to take their game to the next level. Some are now playing college basketball. When Mohr began teaching lessons at the Fond du Lac YMCA she never thought it would lead to something like this. She states, "Being a part of HLC has been a very enjoyable experience for my family. Not only do I enjoy helping players reach their next level of play, you also become good friends with those who are committed to HLC and the process we go through. We are known as the HLC FAMILY. When we see each other during the school year, our discussions always lead us back to our summers traveling with HLC. Mohr continues, "HLC IS UNIQUE. It is different from other programs because it works on developing the complete player. It is important to compete during the off-season, but you cannot put a price tag on shooting 500 jumpshots a day, free throws and other drills to help fine tune your game. It is the driveway drills that you do March through November that help you reach your next level of play. It is at the Fundamentals Camp you learn this." "MOST IMPORTANT, HLC has a sincere desire to help each player reach their next level of play. We are very fair about playing time and rotating starters. There is fine line between breaking a child's WILL and their SPIRIT. Way too many coaches have crossed that line. Kids are quiting sports when they are only 12 of 13 years old. The main reason is because of the coaches. A coach has a role in an athletes life that can eithe rmake or break a player. HLC prides itself in giving each player the opportunity to excel and reach their next level of play. We will never put winning before the development of the player."
